Hedging and pruning
Hedging and pruning across Caloundra and the Sunshine Coast.
Hedges that come back in shape every time. Topiary balls that stay round. Screening shrubs cut to the height that gives you privacy without losing the light.
When a hedge is overdue
Hedges are easy to put off.
They do not stop the gate from opening or the kids from playing in the yard. So they get one more month, then one more, then suddenly the boxed hedge out the front is not a box any more, it is a soft cloud, and the only person who notices is your neighbour.
The longer you leave it, the more you have to take off to get the shape back. The right time was probably four months ago. The next-best time is the next time we are in your suburb.
What we work on
From boxed front hedges to topiary balls.
- Boxed front hedges (lilly pilly, viburnum, murraya, anything that wants a hard edge)
- Topiary balls and shapes
- Screening shrubs along fences for privacy
- Ornamental shrubs near doorways and pebble beds
- Light pruning on small trees and lower-growing natives
- Storm tidies after wind has knocked branches around
We are not arborists. If you have got a tree that needs a chainsaw and a climbing harness, we will point you at someone who does that work.

What it costs
How we price hedging.
Hedging price depends on three things: how long the hedge is, how high it is, and how badly it has grown out (a hedge cut six weeks ago is faster than one cut six months ago).
We will quote it on a per-job basis after a quick look. For most front hedges we can quote off a photo if you cannot be home when we drive past.
Common hedging jobs
Three job types we do across the Sunshine Coast.
Front-yard street hedges
The most common hedge job we do. Lilly pilly, viburnum, murraya, usually 40 to 60 cm high, somewhere between 4 and 12 metres long. We trim to a square edge with the line off the fence.
Backyard screening
Tall (1.8 m+) screening shrubs along the back fence for privacy. We cut to height without leaving gaps, and we do not take off so much that you lose the screen for six months while it grows back.
Topiary and feature shapes
Round balls, cone shapes, anything where the customer cares more about the shape than the speed. Slower work but worth it, and we keep a steady hand. Topiary is where the difference between "trimmed" and "shaped" really shows.
What Sunshine Coast locals say
The reviews we got the old-fashioned way.
“Rowan's been cutting and edging my lawn for awhile now. Plus he's assisted me to get an overgrown garden bed in order, trimming, weed spraying and mulching. He always undertakes his work in a reliable, professional, cheerful, helpful, honest and conscientious manner. I definitely recommend Rowan from Lucky Duck Mowing and Garden Services.”
“Rowan from Lucky Duck goes the extra mile! He takes time and care when mowing my lawns. I'm always very happy with how pristine they look after he has mowed and whipper snippered. He's not afraid of hard work and is very responsive to text messages and happy to help with extra inquiries regarding my lawn and garden issues. Highly recommend!”
“Best mowing and garden maintenance service ever! Can't beat it on the Sunshine Coast! Really great communication, and the finished product is always second to none. I've always been impressed by Rowan's attention to detail when he does his work, and always thankful for the care he takes when doing the job. Highly highly recommended.”
